HISTORY of the JEWS - IV:

RETURN FROM BABYLON

CONTRADICTIONS 259 - 285

NOTE: The previous version of this page contained contradictions numbered from 259 to 285, with each discrepancy standing alone. This major revision includes 15 additional discrepancies, due to checking additional Biblical sources and a closer reading of all sources. I decided that putting all of them into a table would make the information more readable and more understandable.

Numbering the additions beyond 285 would have necessitated renumbering the contradictions on all subsequent pages, and I didn't want to get into that. Alternatively, I could have started numbering the new ones at 1002, but I thought that would be confusing. I decided, finally, to head this page "Contradictions 259 - 285" for simplicity's sake. Consider the additional discrepancies a bonus.

The more unusual alternate names, most of which are from the LXX's 1Esdras, are shown in parentheses. These are sometimes noted by a next to its name, with a matching one in a cell of the same row, to indicate the Bible and chapter it came from. 1Esdras also includes some clans which are missing in all other columns, and is missing some which are present in all the other columns. In fact, 1Esdras has by far the most discrepancies of all kinds, so I would consider it unreliable.

* 7,801 is the total of the thirteen clans listed below.

There were 13 clans whose numbers were the same in every column, so I left those out of the table. Those clans are:

1) Azmoth (Beth Azmaveth, Baitasmon) (42)
2) Elam (Olamos) (125)
3) Harim[2] (Charme) (1017)
4) Immer (1052)
5) Jericho (345)
6) Jeshua-Kadmiel-etc. (74)
7) Jorah (Hariph) (112)
8) Kiriath (Kapiras, Kirjatharim)-Chephirah-Beeroth (743)
9) Michmas (Makalon) (122)
10) Nebo (Baitolion?) (52)
11) Parosh (Phoros) (2172)
12) Pashhur (Phassouros) (1247)
13) Ramah (Kiramas)-Geba (Gabbes) (621)

These numbers, totaling 7,801, were added to the sum of each column in the table to get the "Totals of the Columns" row at the bottom.

In addition to the numbers for each clan, the verses cited at the top of the table also give the totals for slaves, various domestic animals and temple donations. All of these, except servants/slaves (7337), mules (245), and camels (435) also showed discrepancies. These are shown at the bottom of the table, after the clan totals. - p.b.
