346. James and John were / were not with Jesus when he healed Peter's mother-in-law.

LUK 4:38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her. 39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.

LUK 5:8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: 10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

MAR 1:16, Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. 17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. 18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.... 29 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her. 31 And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them....

 

 

347. The centurion / Jewish elders asked Jesus to help his servant. [H, 346]

MAT 8:5-8, And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

LUK 7:2-3, And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die. And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.

 

 

348. Jesus healed all / many that were sick in Capernaum.

MAT 8:16, When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:

LUK 4:40, Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.

MAR 1:32-34, And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils. And all the city was gathered together at the door. And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.

 

 

349. Jesus rebuked the wind and sea before / after praising John the Baptist.
350. Jesus calmed a storm before / after calling the publican.

MAT 8:26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea. and there was a great calm.

MAT 9:9 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

MAT 11:11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist.

LUK 5:27 And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me. 28 And he left all, rose up, and followed him.

LUK 7:24 And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, ... 26 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. 27 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

LUK 8:24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.

 

 

351. One / Two men were possessed with devils. [H, 387]
352. The man with devils came out of the tombs / city.
353. The devils sought not to go out of the country / into the deep.

MAR 5:1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. 2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, ... 9, And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. 10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

MAT 8:28, And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.

LUK 8:27, And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. ... 30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. 31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.

 

 

354. Every spirit is / is not godly that says Jesus is of God.

1JOH 4:2, Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

MAR 3:11, And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.

 

 

355. Jarius' daughter was dying / dead when Jesus was approached.

MAR 5:23, And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

LUK 8:42, For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.

MAT 9:18, While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

 

 

356. When Jesus walked on the water his disciples did / did not worship him.

MAT 14:33, Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

MAR 6:51, And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. 52 For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.

 

 

357. After feeding the 5000, Jesus went to Gennesaret / Capernaum.

MAR 6:52, For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened. 53 And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.

JOH 6:13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten. ... 16 And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea, 17 And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum....

 

 

358. Jesus cured the blind man at Bethsaida / outside the temple.
359. Jesus cured the blind man with spit / spit, clay & washing.

MAR 8:22-25, And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.

JOH 8:59, 9:1-6, Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

 

 

360. Lazarus was bound hand and foot / got up and walked. [H, 353]

JOH 11:43, And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. 44 And he that was dead came forth bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him*, and let him go.

* Lazarus "came forth" before Jesus ordered his bindings loosed.

 

 

361. Miracles are / are not a proof of divine mission. [B, 140-141; H,120-121]

EXO 14:31, And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.

MAT 11:2-5, Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

JOH 3:2, The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

MAT 24:24  For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

362. Jesus performed miracles to help people / convince people to believe in him.

MAR 5:19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

MAR 5:41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. 42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. 43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

JOH 4:48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe....

JOH 20:30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

363. A Canaanite / Greek woman asked Jesus to help her daughter. [B, 74; H, 339]

MAT 15:22, And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

MAR 7:26, The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.

 

 

364. One / Two blind men were healed near Jericho. [B, 75; H, 386]
365. Jesus healed the blind man (or men) as he approached / left Jericho.

LUK 18:35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:

MAT 20:29 And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him. 30 And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.

 

 

366. The spirit was / was not deaf or dumb. [M, 136]

MAR 9:25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.

 

 

367. The blind man was / was not named.

MAR 10:46, And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

LUK 18:35, And it came about that when he got near Jericho, a certain blind man was seated by the side of the road, making requests for money from those who went by. ... 38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

 

 

368. The disciples / "Them that believe" can cast out devils in the name of Jesus.

MAR 3:14-15, And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:

MAR 16:17, And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils;

 

 

369. Belief is / is not sufficient to accomplish your goal.

MAR 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

MAR 9:28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? 29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

 

 

370. Jesus' disciples can / cannot heal sickness.

MAT 10:1, And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

MAT 17:16  And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

 

 

371. The disciples failed to cast out a demon because they had no faith / did not pray and fast.

MAT 17:19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? 20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

372. Jesus' disciples did / did not fast.

MAT 6:16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;

MAR 2:18 And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?

 

 

373. Jesus honored / chastened Peter at Caesarea Philippi.

MAT 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

MAT 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

 

 

374. Jesus' transfiguration was six / eight days after he prophesied his passion.

MAT 17:1-2, And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

LUK 9:22, And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.
