----------------------------------
LUK 22:17, And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: 18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. 19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

MAR 11:15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, ... 17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves. 18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.
----------------------------------
MAR 14:43 And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. 44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.

412. Jesus' prayer to be saved from death was / was not heard.

LUK 22:41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, 42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me....43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

HEB 5:7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

414. One / no disciple was lost.

JOH 17:12, While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. 39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
----------------------------------
MAT 26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. 40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. 43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. 44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

[SEE ALSO: MAR 14:36 and MAT 26:39, 42.]

----------------------------------
LUK 22:45 When he rose from prayer and returned to his disciples, he found them sleeping from grief. (NAB)

[NOTE: Since Luke 22:42 quotes Jesus, someone must have heard him, else Luke would not have known what Jesus said in his prayer. But three verses later, Luke tells us that all his disciples were asleep, so they could not have heard Jesus praying. Who else was there to hear him? No other person is mentioned in this scene. It would appear that Luke made this up, in which case it is fiction, not history. - p.b.]

417. Judas did / did not identify Jesus with a kiss.

MAT 26:49, And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.

MAR 14:45, And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.
----------------------------------
LUK 22:47-48, And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him. But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

LUK 22:50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear..... 54 Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.

JOH 18:10 Then Simon Peter* having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.

* The gospels say that Roman and court officers arrested Jesus. Why didn't they also arrest Peter when he cut off the ear of one of the arresting party? It is implausible that they would not have done so. Yet, Peter remained free throughout the rest of the passion story. Worse, in ACT 5:17-18 Peter was arrested for teaching and healing! It makes no sense that preaching and healing would merit jail time and that violence against one of the arresting party would not. - p.b.

420. Peter denied Jesus to a maid / a man / the high priest's servant / others.

MAR 14:67-72, And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth. But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them. And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto. But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak. And the second time the cock crew.
----------------------------------
LUK 22:55-60, And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them. But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him. And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not. And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean. And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.
----------------------------------
JOH 18:17 Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not. ... 25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not. 26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? 27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.

----------------------------------
ACT 1:16, Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, who the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus. 17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. 18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. 19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

ZEC 11:12-13, And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

MAT 27:1-2, When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
----------------------------------
LUK 22:66, And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council... 71 And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.

[NOTE: Both trial and sentencing were before the council - p.b.]

-----------------------------------

JOH 18:12, Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him, 13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year. 14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people. ... 19 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine. ... 24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest. ... 28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover. ... 35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?

JOHN 19:15, But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. 16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
