434. The high priest would not have rent / did rend his clothes.

LEV 21:10, And he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes;

435. Pilate was for / against Jesus.

JOH 19:12 And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

 

 

437. Jesus answered Pilate "Thou sayest it" / "... did others tell it thee of me?"

441. The chief priests / priests & elders / people demanded the release of Barabbas.

448. Those who hang on a tree are / are not cursed.

DEU 21:23, His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

453. One / two thieves reviled Jesus on the cross. [B, 77]

MAR 15:32, Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.

454. The soldiers give Jesus vinegar / wine to drink.

MAT 27:34, They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

461. There is only / more than one Christ.

1COR 8:6, But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

MAT 26:26, And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.1
ISA 45:1, Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him .... 2

1 If the bread is literally Jesus' body, and Jesus gave the bread to the disciples using his fleshly body to do so, then he must have had two bodies. - p.b.

462. Jesus did / did not fulfill messianic requirements.

LUK 4:18, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor;

JOH 1:41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

JOH 4:25-26, The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

LUK 24:19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: ... 21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

JOH 12:34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up?* who is this Son of man?

JOH 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

ACT 1:6, When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

463. Jesus was a ransom for many / all.

MAT 20:28, Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many. (NAB)
