BURIAL to RESURRECTION

 

 

465. Joseph of Arimathaea boldly / secretly asked for the body of Jesus.
466. Pilate did not / did know Jesus was dead when Joseph asked for the body.

MAR 15:43-45, Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus. And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead. And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.

JOH 19:33, But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs. ... 38 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

 

 

467. Jesus was buried by Joseph / Joseph & Nicodemus / the rulers of Jerusalem.

MAR 15:45-46, And when [Pilate] knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre who was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.

And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain. 468. Jesus did / did not fulfill Isaiah's burial prophecy.

JOH 20:1-2, Now on the first day of the week, very early, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the place and saw that the stone had been taken away from it.

His form was shining like the light, and his clothing was white as snow: And for fear of him the watchmen were shaking, and became as dead men.

MAT 28:16-17, Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

490. Jesus appeared in the flesh / another form.

491. The disciples did / did not believe in Jesus' resurrection.

MAR 10:34  And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again. 35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, ... 37 They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.

MAR 16:11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.

LUK 24:11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.

 

 

492. All disciples did / did not believe when they first saw the risen Jesus.

493. The disciples were frightened / gladdened when they saw Jesus.

JOH 20:26-27 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

LUK 7:12-15, Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said,Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.

JOH 11:43, And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
